Hey all,
Out here they are about to pass legislation that will allow schools to post "In God We Trust" on the walls. They are also working on legislation to allow them to post the ten commandments.
Now, I personally feel that "In God We Trust" is fine to post in schools. Like I said in a previous post, I believe in one god with many faces. So saying "In God We Trust" will reflect everyone's God...
However, I think posting the Ten Commandments goes to far. If we post them shouldn't we post entries from the book of shadows, quotes from the Koran, maybe the LDS articles of faith, etc. etc.
I think posting the ten commandments puts to much emphasis on the christian religion and treads on non-christian beliefs. What do ya' all think?

I agree in the whole "In God We Trust" qoute. Punch and pie, I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that it reflects everyone's beliefs. That said, the Ten Commandments are absolutly a part of Christian dogma. Myself being a Lutheran, they're a part of my belief system. I don't think it's fair, however to post my beliefs on a wall. I mean, I don't try and oppress people with Christianity. Furthermore, I don'[t think any state legislation has the right to do so, either. In short, 10 Commandments (NO), In God We Trust (yes).

umm...I still don't want "In God we trust" on the walls because not everyone believes in one god or any god at all. Not all religions have "god".
I definitely don't think that the Ten Commandments should be posted in schools...that would open up too much controversy. Schools would have to find the "list of beliefs" for every religion or there would be an uproar. I know in my school, there would be a big problem because kids of many different religions attend my school.
As for the "In God We Trust," that's a double-edged sword. While the big religions all believe in God, there are other religions, such as Buddhism, that believe in many gods or Native American religions that belief in nature.
Dear board,
I believe that God needs to be put back in schools nationwide, and a county near me has already done so by placing the Ten Commandments in every classroom. People use the American money, which says "In God We Trust, " so why is it such a big deal?? No one gets offended from that and everyone uses it practically every second. Eventhough America does welcome other religions, America is clearly built on Christianity, which is the Christian religion, founded on the life and teachings of Jesus. So my point is, if we can put "In God We Trust," on money, why not in schools or other public places??
See ya,
Josh
I totally agree that putting "In G-d* we trust" on the walls of schools is a very good thing. However, I also believe that the Ten Commandments have a place there, as well.
America was founded on the Judeo-Christian belief system, and it has been integrated as an important part of American government, law, and culture. I don't believe in advocating one religion over another - as a Jew, I know how being missionized to feels (not good). I do, though, believe that schools funded by the American government with monies from American taxpaying citizens should espouse American ideals and teach American culture. There is nothing wrong with being patriotic.
*As a Jew, I am forbidden to write out G-d's full name.
