what do u mean the "middle east." its not one country u know, rather a collection of very different countries that is. Anyways i dont know if that region ever did pose a threat to the U.S. I mean sure it does it is the source of global economic blood, or better said, OIL. so yea the U.S will always try to get there some way or another, saying that its "safety" is in danger in order to peek its head in that region. Come on we all know if it wasnt for oil, the U.S doesnt give a shit about saddam hussein's "undemocratic" actions or the palestinian people's call for an end to violence and bloodshit.

Sorry...if i offended anyone with classifying the "middle East" as threats to the u.s.
What I meant to say was do you think that the taliban still holds a threat to the u.s.? Like another attack on the u.s. or killings of americans over seas.

well its ok what u said, no offense taken. Any group such as the taliban will always be a threat to someone, yes. But America should revise its policies in a way that the majority of people in the middle east dont see it as the reason for all their problems.

As insensitive and sarcastic as this sounds, but the only way to ensure that the Taliban or any 'terrorist' group or any nation for that matter would never have a future threat on us would be to exterminate every human being outside the borders of the U.S. I mean anyone outside the U.S., and even inside the U.S., has a potential threat to attack us. The KKK, if they really wanted to, could take over the government and enforce their ideals on us. England could say, "Ya know what, its been 226 years since we controlled you, I think it's time to take you back." If your question is would I be surprised if some day in the next few months the news broadcasts that biological warfare has ripped through Washington, D.C., and it is believed that it's an action of terrorists? No, I have to say I would not be surprised.

Honestly I think that it is a perfectly fair question to ask "Is the Middle East..." Here's why:

The Taliban never posed a threat to the United States. As unspeakably cruel as it treated its own people, it never attempted to seize control of any other out-lying lands. And until 9/11, the US really wasn't interested in the region. Oh, sure. When the Buddhas were destroyed everyone got uptight and a few people were screaming at our government to do something about the horrible conditions the women faced, but really, none of us had any *real* idea of what it was like in that area, nor did we really care to find out.

On the other hand, Al-Qaeda members were being harboured there (as they are/were in our own country) and they posed a measurable risk to the US. However, we never went in with an actual intent to get Osama Bin Laden. Sure, Clinton set a few rounds of missiles in hie general direction, but he never really did anything.

However, the Middle East has been a thorn in our side for many, many years. If we weren't so dependent on oil or weren't such a massive bully, we wouldn't see nearly as much of the strife that *we* caused in that region. We support unsavory regimes, we switch sides whenever we feel it is appropriate (We actually provided all of those weapons Iraq had in the Persian Gulf War back in the 80's during the Iran-Iraq conflict.), we continuously back Israel at the expense of offending Arab nations and isolating outselves. Though no nation ever waged war on us (except Libya, then Tripoli in Jefferson's presidency), many of them waged a secret war of terrorism on us. The number of hijacked planes is phenomenal. Why do you think we have Sudan, Syria, Libya, Iran, and Ira

(contd. from last message)...Iraq on our "naughty list" for state-sponsored terrorism? Because the ALL at one time or another supported some action against the US (or, in the case of Iraq, they have a complete whacko in charge).

The charge that the region poses a risk the the US is perfectly legit in that the Middle East is the root of many of the world's recent conflicts (which our military members get thrust into), our pathetic diplomatic actions get us into international diplomatic hot water, and, as seen on 9/11 and many other times, terrorism on the US is gaining in popularity by those incredibly desperate peoples who have no other form of expression (and are either insane or incredibly desperate).
