Recently I've been thinking, I've learned that the reason for prejudice and discrimination is the fear of differences. 'I don't like blacks 'cuz they're different from me', 'I picked on him 'cuz he's different from the rest of us', 'Girls are totally different in every way'. If the reason why I'm prejudice toward people is because they're different, or that I fear because their different, then I should be afraid of everyone around me as well as myself. No? Why is an African American different from me because of the mere fact that they have more melanin in their skin? Is a girl inferior to me for the mere fact that I have something that she doesn't (for a better choice of words)? Can I hear your ideas on prejudice, discrimination, and everything related, and if you feel that is a fear of differences is a valid excuse for these feelings towards others?

I think that there are more differences then the ones you mentioned. In my life I started out in every way non-prejudice. I would get upset at others when they were. Now as my life goes on I see myself becoming more prejudice. I don't like it, but I see it happening. I have heard some African-Americans complain about the stereotypes, but yet I feel that they bring it all upon themselves. Maybe not them, because there is always exceptions. But why do African-Americans play roles in movies that are stereo typical? Same goes for whites. I think there are so many more differences then just the color of the skin or the race. People like their culture and adapt themselves to fit those stereotypes. By doing that people get the feelings that they are different. I do not think I am scared of people who are different than me, but at the same time I find myself in a more comfortable situation with people who are more like myself. That holds true for everything, religion, race, sex, nationality. I find that in each of those situations that the people who are the same as me have similar beliefs and values. So I don't think it is the differences in people that causes discrimination, but the similarities that causes clicks which lead to misinterpertations of discrimination.

I have been asking my self the same question why is there so much prejudice against different people. i still really haven't found the answer. but i have come to many different theories first there is fear of people being different from u then there is wanting to fit in. There are also many different types of prejudices i mean like against gays, lesbians, whites, blacks, asians, almost every race is prejudiced against but now there are also different types such as how a certain person dresses or acts like let say a grl is wearing tight clothes she's called a slut a guy is wearin chains or wateva is called a thug i don't get it i mean now i even see prejudism against pplz own culture.I dont understand it!
