Everything After - A 9.11 Youth Circle

A lot of our discussions have been leading to big, sensitive subjects, a ton of them, like abortion, leading to others. So I'll stick one out in the open here: what do you guys think about sexuality? I think it is alright to be anything - How can you condemn someone for love?

I think that someone who is homosexual doesnt chose that. They cannot control their feelings towards someone of the same sex. It isnt their fault. And I think that God can fogive homosexals because if they had a choice I bet a lot of them would wish they werent and I am sure many have them have prayed to God to help them out. Although I find it somewhat discusting , I dont think I would hate someone for being homosexual .

I don't find it disgusting at all. Some scientists say they have proven that sexuality is determined by genes. I know many gay and bi people, and there is no difference between them and others besides the gender of those who they love. It's scary, though, the hate crimes that have been committed against those who are gay. Like a boy in Texas, I think, was found strung up on barbed wire off in the desert. Because he was gay.

Yeah its called gay bashing. and I saw that liek on a reanactment on some show. And its not liek "regular beating up" its brutal and it gets so bad that they kill the person. You'd think that people would get over their differences in this time period, but no. i think that its human nature but not human nature because it is way too harsh .

It's also scary how little we have progressed on general beliefs of equality. Like, after the slaves were freed, it took a looong time for african americans to earn equality. Even now, things aren't entirely equal. Way back then, talking about homosexuality wasn't even acceptable. Some time in the 1900s, it slowly started to emerge. But its barely progressed past that point! About 50 yrs. ago, there was a senator called McCarthy. He was a bad senator, but that's not the point; I won't go into details but he did a lot of anti-communist persecution and stuff. Toward the end of his career he was accused of homosexual activities. This was the beginning of his downfall. 50 yrs from then, the very same accusation could bring the downfall of a current polititian!

earache, I think you're talking about Matthew Shepard,who was killed in Laramie,Wyoming. The only high-profile hate crime in Texas I'm aware of was the dragging of James Byrd to death in Jasper because he was black.

I don't care what sexual orientation anyone has, and I think it's absurd how so many people hate homosexuals for only that reason-they're human too.

Yeah. I don't know what it's like at your school,but at mine I can hear regular compliants/comments about how the media/society is "so liberal and pro-gay". It really gets on my nerves. If being liberal & pro-gay means accepting people for what they are, I'm all for it!

What really gets me mad is just how gay slurs have become so ingrained in our language. Like if somehting is irritating or femenine or dumb etc. it's "gay." First I heard of a homosexual object! Everyone is so close-minded. And if you stick up for what you believe, they just call you gay.

I bleieve that being homosexual is wrong, but that doesn't believe that I hate the person. Some Christians set a bad example, like the Godhatesfags.com website, that is just wrong, and sets a bad example for non-believers. God thinks lying is wrong, but He doesn't hate us for lying. God thinks homosexuality is wrong, but He doesn't hate us for doing it. The fact is, you CAN CHOOSE who you love, people do have control over it. Those people could choose not to be gay. Besides, guys and girls getting support when they come out of the closet at age 14, that's wrng. They aren't even old enough to be thinking about sexuality! I have gays friends whom I love, but I won't condone their behavior. Most of the time it isn't love anyway, it's lust. And that kind is perverse and twisted. I don't think they should be prosecuted for it, that would be like prosecuting me for the times I have lied, but I don't tihnk we should encourage it either.

If you are gay you can not control it. It is a product of genes. I am bisexual. It something I can not "control." It is an aspectof me. I have never payed any attention to gender, since I was little. I never really understood it. When I think about it, I have never loved anyone based on their gender. That has always been in the background. It is purely the person inside that I love.

Wait wait wait. That was a really messed up message I posted. It doesn't make any sense. It's not that I don't understand gender, it's that I know I have the capacity to truly love someone of any gender. Because the gender plays such a small role in it. What I have never really understood is gender roles. Love is love.
