I like thinking introspecitively. :o) What is your definition on life? What affect does music have on your life ad life in general? Do you think music has played a role in changing life surrounding 9/11? Explain all your answers please (it's not so interesting if everyone just says yes or no)...thanks
My definition of life....wow, I really don't know. I just think that life is a journey in which we learn more about us and the world around us. Its kind of hard to say that a good life would be, everyone has their own definition. So, I guess just to be yourself. That would be a good life.
Music has always influenced my life, not just after 9-11. I don't know if it was life changing though. Everyone turns to music when they are feeling happy, sad, depressed, excited...etc. But, the patriotic songs were re-vitalized and people were excited to me an American.
Hmm, well wow, quite a complex question you got there MagDee023;lol;
I guess life is a journey that has many aspects to it, and they all vary from person to person. Although we all go through different experiences in life, I do believe that in the end life is ultimately about finding something that truly brings meaning, purpose and/or joy to one.
We all have needs, and gosh in the society of today where everything is focused on individuality and finding yourself, those needs have come to an ultimate high when it comes to how diverse they can be.
SO, I guess what I am trying to say, is that life isn't something one can define completely, because every day brings on some sort of new journey and we all go through different ones.(sort of like what dancestar23 said in her entry)
So, like I said, life is a journey of discovery of many things such as joy, love, adversity, sorrow, losing some one... etc. it just depends through what sort of circumstances one has to go through to experience all that which varies, and then hopefully in the end one will be able to achieve that humble knowing of what their true passion and purpose is.
I don't know if that made any sense, but bare with me;lol
anyway, music?
well, I am someone who can listen to pretty much any type of music. Although it truly depends on the mood that I am in. For example, if I am out and having fun I will probably be listening to rock, alternative, rap, hip-hop, or techno. On the other hand, if I am just hanging out at home in my room it will probably be anything ranging from jazz to even some pop.
I like music because there is a sort for every mood that someone might be in.
So, yeah I think that after 9/11 music could help a lot of people just calm down, and kind of enter that soothing state of mind and just relax I guess. I can't really say though, because everyone has been effected by it in different ways, but I think music is a universal connection which exists within all of us.
Ok, gotta go.
Bye and thanks for reading

To me life is being able to make choices without regret, being able to be comfortable with yourself, and just trying to make yourself happy. That outlook has not nor will ever change since 9/11. Music is a huge influence in my life. I think its an amazing way to express yourslef and your feeling. Though I can't sing or play an instrument to save my life, listening to it and appreciating the lyrics for what they are is just as fufilling. I love all kinds from cab calloway, to Frakie Lymon to Cream to Beach Boys to the Vandelles to INXS to REM to Nirvana to Boyz II Men to NaS and yes Hanson. I think since 9/11 censorship has increased which is tremendously sad because an artist should have the freedom to express him/herself however he/she chooses. I think that music is very theraputic and probably helped many after the tragedy. I know that for myself popping in Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" album when I got home that night (It took 6hrs for me to get home) made a lot of things clearer to me and made me feel better.

My entry's a bit long, but meaningful, to me anyway...if you have the time, please read it...
Life - the journey in a physical body trying to define what life is and why on earth you have to be travelling on this planet. Life is all about mystery, trying to understand what life is all about, only to find out that no matter how hard you try, you can never really find out what it really is. Of those people who answered, and I must say they were all great answers, I posed to you a question, I'm sure you heard of before, that has boggled the mind of scientists and historians since the beginning of time. Even Webster can't give a clear definition in that little dictionary of his. What's the whole point of life anyway? We live on this planet for almost a century, for what? To interact with other people who have no clue why they're here either, to get pushed around by some, loved by others, and never meet over 2 billion of the rest? I'm sorry, but although life is grand, I don't have the faintest idea why on earth we live like we do to just die in the end...i personally feel it's a bit pointless when seen in the broad spectrum...
Music - the collection of sounds that produces a type of melody that causes emotions to burn from deep in the soul of the listener; it was created, along with other mediums (i.e. TV, books, computer, etc.), to prevent us from committing suicide from boredom. Okay, maybe the second part of my definition is a bit cynical, but some of you must agree with me. Music is a good portion of my life. It affects every aspect of my life, and it has shaped and formed many of my ideals and beliefs on life. I listen to all types of music: oldies (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s) the most, and rap the least. Right now, my favorite song is Baha Men's "Move It Like This" because it's a song about all the old school dances and it has a great grove and dance beat. For me, if I didn't have music, I don't think my life would have as much meaning to me as it does. Music is a celebration of life. Without music, the celebration of life really ceases to exist.
Patriotism sky-rocketed immediately after 9/11, but after 7 months, I feel it's diminished a lot. It may pick up again when the Day of Remembrance approaches, but other than that, it's decreasing overall. Music has allowed mourning to flow a little more easily. Memorial lyrics, songs of remembrance, a look on the positive side to what has happened has eased some of the pain for many. That's the power of music. Music can dictate your emotions. If you're sad, you put a pick-me-up song, and you will feel better. Music can also boost the immune system.
