Muse, I like what you've done with the place. Very... interesting

I must say I've been very insulated from all this WTC tragedy. I never walked in the shadows of the Twin Towers, and only have a vague recollection of seeing them when I was 10 or 11. I have never seen the pentagon, nor do I know anyone in any of the planes. Some coworkers were on one of them, but even those people I didn't know. But I know dozens of people who knew someone either on the planes, or in the towers, and many, like you, Muse, are afraid. Afraid that they are never going to get that call or email that says, "Hey, I'm alright... Just lost in the New York Jungle for a few days".

I just saw the helicopter footage of "Ground Zero" last night. The few stories of lattice still standing. And it wasn't the first time I've cried since tuesday, but those were bitter tears last night. If we go to war, and Uncle Sam will take me, I think it'd be time I enlisted. These fuckers need to learn... And don't get me wrong, I know U.S. foreign policy caused this, but please, we don't bomb civilian targets to make a point.

And isn't it funny how the phrase of the week has been War on the U.S., or America under attack... This definitely is a War on US. The world over, people who are sick and tired of assholes stuck in the 15th century killing and maiming in the name of God, Allah, Ra and every other two bit god in existence... As Mel Gibson said in Ransom, "God help you, because no one else will".

an analysis of Afghanistan - a very well written analysis of how the Afghanistan we look at today has survived as a relic of another age, and more worthy of pity than our military might.
An Afghan poet who was being deported from Iran back to Afghanistan expressed his feelings in a poem and left:
I came on foot, I'll leave on foot.
The stranger who had no piggy bank, will leave.
And the child who had no dolls, will leave.
The spell on my exile will be broken tonight.
And the table that had been empty will be folded.
In suffering, I wandered around the horizons.
It is me who everyone has seen in wandering.
What I do not have I'll lay down and leave.
I came on foot, I'll leave on foot.

I don't really understand what's happening to me. I'm going through all the symptoms, mood swings, fits of depression, hurt, anger... and all I can think of is that someone stole my New York from me. I remember climbing up into the top crenelations of the Pratt Institute administration building. You were at the highest point on campus (short of the Willoughby Hall apartment buildings), and watching the warm copper gleem of the sun on the twin pillars of the WTC. I avoided the '93 WTC bombing by a matter of minutes.
And yet now, it's all gone.
You can't go back, innocence was lost.
lives were lost, many of them, hundreds, thousands.
how many of the guys I knew at 88th Precinct (Fulton Ave., Brooklyn) have been stolen from us.
has anyone seen Noah or Pat? did someone take them from me?
I still can't deal with losing Will, who can justify any of this to me.
did Heather respond to the call by grabbing her orange ruck-sack? knowing that gods watch over those who wear the caduceus and winged sandals of Hermes.
and I sit here, years older, years wiser, crying at my desk, knowing that warm tar roof, crumbling brick facade and deep indigo sky are only memories.
no one else will ever see that, it's only a memory.
and well all know that memories fade away as they crumble into dust.
may we all find solace, somewhere
to this hurt

And now it comes to light that the FBI was working on at least on Highjacking, the 'Terrorist group formerly known as the PLO' is taking responsibility {this has now been denied} for it all. Then there is the fact that another plane was crashed into the Pentagon (possibly loaded with explosives) and the possibility of a third into the Washington Mall.

Well, this is a fucker of a way to start your day. Two planes crash into the the World Trade Center within 18 minutes of each other. And now there has been a report of a plane crash/terrorist bombing of the pentagon. My money says that we're going to carpet bomb the fuck out of someone within 30 days... the stakes just went up, and it's not going to be happy.

Ah yes the word of the gord. It’s so true for once I worked at a video game store. And let me tell you how many idiots came in and out of Babbage's. Here is one example of a run in with one. This would usually happen oh I don’t know about 800 times a day.

Ken: Hello may I help you today? Idiot: Ah yes I'm looking a Nintendo 65.Ken: Yes we do have it but it is called the Nintendo 64. Idiot: No I want a Nintendo 65. Ken: I'm sorry but Nintendo has never made a videogame system called the Nintendo 65. Idiot: Well my 5-year-old son told me he wants a Nintendo 65.

The number 5, which was NOT the number Nintendo had chosen for their system. And the number of brain cells actually working in the idiot's brain. After a few minutes of explaining I finally got this idiot to see the light.

Ah yes there is a gord.

Well, I'm bidding you all g'nite from the far side for DJ Hyper and some GT:2, it's that kinda night. Gonna have to get a move on for that whole HSC 3.0 thing, and something else on that branch may flower yet as well... hmm. And another note to self when self is wearing the web-master t-neck, Jules asked something of me, something that I might produce for her... time to get a streaming mp3 server. c'mon, I've heard of at least 2 apache modules that work with ice-cast and give you an interface between the mp3-server/app and your web-server. now if I can't bleed that out of myself, it's time to call it quits and get a job as a lab-rat. Well, another something to put into the 'to-do' bin.

g'nite.

Gord: "I'm going to do to you the same thing that happened to the last thief I caught. I'm going to toss you into a wall, into a van, and into a wall again."
Thief: "You can't do that!"
Gord: "Good news for you, there is no van here. Bad news, you're going into that wall twice."

If you approach your CS training like you approach your paintball training, you will realize that there is no such thing as single-user mode. What good is playing against bots going to teach you? You're not playing against bots. You're playing against HUMANS. Bots will run around in a chaotic fashion looking to frag your ass, but a human with enough patience will hide behind that assortment of crates with a Magnum sniper rifle, knowing that the only way for you to get him is to come through that hole in the wall, and he KNOWS you're coming....

But it does have a training mode so you can learn how to move and attack, and communicate, and do simple things, like disarm the bomb. :-)

Worse comes to worse, I'll kick off a server, and you, me, Chuck, bob and mikey can slug it out together. You, me and bob against chucky and Mikey, since they play so much...

Muse posted by Muse at 9/10/2001 05:03:21 PM

OK, so Darth has now laid out the gauntlet... I must now purchase CS, and let the mayhem ensue. Does CS have a single-player aspect to test myself with or do I just hop on a server and wait for someone to hand me my ass as a way of saying "nice ping... biotch."

Ok, I just need to go on record as saying that Counter Strike HAS TO BE *THE* MOST addicting game I have played since the original Quake came out. I remember the good old days of downloading serdoom to play Doom via 14.4K modem with my local BBS players, back in the day when most people didn't have computers powerful enough to RUN DOOM!!! Long before the dreaded PENTIUM came along. Now, I've gone through the incarnations, Doom, Doom ][, (could never get past level 32, with all them fucked up beholders regenerating every 6 seconds), Quake (the last game to truly scare the piss out of me), and Quake II (mildly disappointing). Q3 Team Arena and CStrike have changed my world yet again. Not longer am I facing off with stupid AI controlled opponents, but talented, skilled, thinking, and deviously cunning HUMANS. A strategy world made possible by the likes of Total Annihilation, Star Craft, and many others, but that put the learning behind the game. Like last night. I learned: Don't ever run past a certain trapped corridor without loading up on smoke grenades :)

Can you imagine paintball with the accuracy and range of a .308 winchester?

Like running down a corridor on the first world Boss Level of Quake, listening to Ministry (instead of that horribly arranged NiN soundtrack), only to hear the following, just before the demon rises from the depths and starts lobbing fireballs at you, and is smiling every time your rockets collide with his body...

Congregation, please be seated, and open your prayer guides, to the Book of Revelations, Psalm 69
69... [echoing]
-Ministry (Psalm 69).

God, those were good days.... I fear I will have to wait for total immersion VR to get that kind of effect again.

Well, tonight was fun, caught up with DarthCoder, Gamma-man, and Jules. With force of will we headed out, with the blazing orb in the sky [shudder], and explored the woods around Purgatory Chasm. Quite a few stories of mischef between those two boys, how amusing, what wonderful blackmail material. Still hunting for a camera, maybe I can gleen a jem from some discontinued bin, there is still hope. In other news, Jules and I are both off to work in the mornings now, she's starting her new job at a bio-tech firm out our way. Wow, the two of us on similar schedules... and the house will once again be ours, for almost two weeks! whooohoo, I'm gonna have to write invitations!

"So this pengin is driving, and his car breaks down"
{what the hell is a penguin doing driving a car? It's a flightless water-fowl, the little fuckers don't show up in NASCAR events, didja' notice that?}
"anyways, the penguin gets the car to the local garage, and talks to the mechanic"
P: "My car broke down, will you be able to fix it?"
M: "Well, we'll take a look at it and figure out what's wrong, it'll take a couple hours. Then we'll be able to tell you what it's gonna take to fix it. Why don't you come back in an hour."
"So the pengin goes of, and finds a cafe, and orders some ice-cream. Being a pengin and an arctic animal, and all that. So the penguin, enjoys the ice-cream, and orders a second one. He checks the time and heads off to the mechanic, with a melting ice-cream around his mouth and chest.
M: "It looks like you blew a seal."
P: "oh, this? no, it's just ice-cream."

Well in response to muse’s request I have decided it’s time for me to post something. So here it goes.

So far life is going ok same stuff different day. Right now I am currently working on getting my A+ certification. I picked up a book All In One A+ Certification exam guide by Michael Meyers. Its 1280 pages long looks like I better get cracking.

I took some of the practice (adaptive tests) I scored a 790 or the core exam needed a 540 to pass. But Failed on the OS exam got a 520 needed around a 640 to pass for that one so looks like I need to focus on that more.

I am hoping to pass the test before the month ends hopefully the sooner the better.

Well I guess that’s it for now I hope to post more good stuff some time soon.

{{{when is someone else going to 'blog something. I feel like I'm talking to my own self-gratifying monument to me... oh, wait... I am.}}}
Well, I have been thinging about what it's going to be like leaving this house. I'm going to close a book titled:

1212 Whitebread Ave.
Museville, US 01011

1980-2001

and put it on the shelf. Maybe I should get off my duff and get started with my new project. Photo-documenting my house, Ghetto-VRML as needed. 4+ shots of every room. extra pictures for layers of detail in items. Hey, who's the first person to find the hidden safe? I can make a treasure-hunt out of my house. Hmm, while the parentals are coming home (not generally a good thing) they are returning with the Digital Camera. The game is afoot!
But what about the family that buys this house from us. Who takes custodianship of these walls. Maybe Dad is quietly producing the 1212 Washington St. Owners Manual. Complete plans for everything we've dug up about this house in it's 200 years here. Wiring diagrams and plumbing notation for all the work we have installed, replaced, and observed. Understand that the unused H/C feeds under the pantry were for the wet-sink we nearly put into the bar. Oh, now that's a fun project. {hint-hint, note to self}
Jules and I also have to start taking notes as to what liqours we are going to be looking for as we stock up the new frog-cave, wherever it may be. Hmm, decisions, decisions.
